The production of the World Metrology Poster has become something of an institution at Kashan, with the 2007 edition being the eighth produced by the company. In the early years, the poster was initiated by the National Metrology Laboratory of South Africa (now the National Metrology Institute of South Africa) and was distributed locally.
The purpose was to expose the general public to the importance of measurement, especially in areas that pertain to trade and their rights as consumers. Themes have included the importance of measurement in sport, the home, enterprises and healthcare among others.
The success and demand for the posters led to the involvement of PTB Germany as a co-sponsor and the production of the posters in English, French and Portuguese, with distribution into other African countries. The packaging and delivery from Kashan’s premises became a logistical challenge of note, with different combinations of the above being packaged in different quantities for dispatch throughout the continent.
The scope of the project has increased year on year and today PTB is one of the primary drivers of the project. This year the scope of the project reached land-mark proportions. Thanks to technology which allows graphic designs to be electronically dispatched, the design was released to 22 different countries and the text translated into no less than 40 different languages for circulation around the world.
